Wachau, in the Danube Valley between Melk and Krems offers delightful landscapes with a series of mountains, forests and vineyards. These few kilometres along the banks of this powerful river are dotted with small villages, castles, ruins and monasteries that are surprisingly well-preserved, tracing thousands of years of history and development.
